Together with a group of women from Google, Rosie Gumataotao Rios—43rd Treasurer of the United States—has imagined what the banknotes of US currency could look like if all had women on them.

In this ‘Notable Women’ project, augmented reality (AR) helps superimpose portraits of hundreds of leading American women onto US bills.

Rios explains on its website, “‘Notable Women’ features 100 historic women selected from the Teachers Righting History database, a collection of women whom the American people recommended to appear on actual U.S. currency during my time at the U.S. Department of Treasury.”

“After all, inspirations lead to aspirations, which is why we have a responsibility to highlight the women who have shaped our past and serve as role models for our future.”

In addition to the website, Google has created a ‘Notable Women AR’ app that allows you to visualize these portraits by directing your phone’s camera towards any US bill.

Watch how it works below. In related news, the ‘New US Dollar’ gives the currency a stylish redesign you won’t bear to spend.
