Style Questionnaire: Donrad Duncan

Style Questionnaire: Donrad Duncan
His early life was spent learning “the makers sensibility,” among a family of tailors, furniture builders and artisans in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica , a culture rich in creativity. Now, men’s activewear designer Donrad Duncan has found himself in the dynamic design environment of New York City, where he both lives and works out of his creative lab and studio, designing lines for his brand: EFM, Engineered For Motion.

EFM transforms high performance fabric into luxury sportswear engineered for extreme functionality and purpose . Duncan takes the active urban man’s contemporary wardrobe wares including military, alpinist and extreme sport clothing, retains their comfort level but champions innovation, amping them up as sharp, tailored hybrids that both move better and weigh less.

With over 25 years of experience, Duncan has caught the attention of professional athletes among the likes of Dwayne Wade, Dre Kirkpatrick and Chandler Parsons, all of whom sport his active attire. You can find his collections on  EFM’s website , and select retails stores like C’H’C’M in New York and David Lawrence in Seattle. In our latest Style Questionnaire, he opens up about bomber jackets, natural living and… socks with sandals.

Describe your style in three words.
To look effortless, distinct, simple.

An old military shirt that I modified into a light bomber jacket.  I would love to still own that jacket.

Name a celebrity whose style you admire.
Einstein. Albert had his own style.

What are three pieces that every man should have in his closet?
The staples are a navy blazer, white t-shirts and a classic pair of shoes.

What stores and websites do you frequent?
I try to live a natural and healthy lifestyle, and food is an important part of that, so I spend time researching online and shopping for real food.

What’s one thing that is always worth splurging on?
I heavily support the shoe industry.

What trend would you like to see disappear?
Socks with sandals.  (Invest in a pedicure.)

What is one thing guys can do to improve their style?
Keep it simple and go with confidence.

When you want to make a good impression, what should you wear?
A nice classic watch and always carry a handkerchief.
