Banksy’s shredding stunt is so iconic and symbolic of 2018, it’s been recreated as a Halloween costume and now, a Christmas tree.
The Parkersburg Art Center in West Virginia has been making waves with its new festive installation parodying the Banksy prank that has ripped the world to shreds.
The Christmas tree was created by volunteers of the establishment, “art-loving moms” Kelley Cartwright and Kasey Snyder, as part of its yearly ‘Artist Tree Display’, and features fir sprigs as the “shredded” bottom half of the installation.
Notably, a red bauble, levitated to the right, has been included in the artwork to sub in for the red balloon in Banksy’s Love is in the Bin, formerly known as Girl with Balloon.
Snyder told Press Association that the display also features Christmas trees inspired by the works of artists Yayoi Kusama, Peter Max, Leon Zernitsky, and Helen Frankenthaler.
Real-life walking Grinches, this one’s for you.
