It’s official: we’ve hit Labor Day and the end of summer. Yes, the holidays are over and it’s time to get back into the swing of things. But while you’re out barbecuing and playing lawn darts, unwind with this selection of highlight stories. It’s been a quiet summer, but things are sure to heat up as we roll into September. We’ll see you Monday.

NASA’s Graphics Standards Manual From 1975 Is Being Reprinted
Remember those guys at Pentagram that found and reissued New York’s MTA Graphics Standards Manual? Well, they’re back to tackle man’s exploration of space, or at least that of NASA. They got the sign-off from the original designers to reprint the ring-bound manual in a beautiful hardcover edition. Available now and shipping March 2016.

Paul Smith Leather Accessories Inspired by Mayfair No.9 Store
The leather goods that make up Paul Smith’s latest collection were directly inspired by the walls and facade of the brand’s Mayfair store at No. 9 Albemarle in London. Named No. 9, the collection is designated by the ellipses on the goods, each available in 11 colors. Quite nice.

India’s Architectural Tribute to Mies Van Der Rohe

India’s Western Ghats is home to this fantastic house by architect Ajay Sonar. Sonar, himself inspired by the great Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, plants down a concrete-heavy structure that offers quite a view of the Sahyadri mountains. A must see.

Thom Browne Pop-Up at Le Bon Marché

Parents bronze baby shoes (a craze going as far back as the early 1900s); Thom Brown silver-plates them. The American designer’s new pop-up inside Paris’ Le Bon Marché features dozens of plated shoes that shine bright against the fluorescent light installation that was certainly inspired by the work of Dan Flavin. Stop by if you’re in the area.

For fans of analog, this one is magical: Bloomberg TV takes us inside the walls of the last remaining cassette duplication facility in Springfield, MO. The National Audio Company has remained the sole mass duplicator in this hemisphere, servicing a niche industry that refuses to drop the format – and it’s a thriving business. #Analogforever

The Making of Burberry’s Iconic Scarves

We always appreciate a good process story here at Selectism, and Burberry didn’t disappoint. In a new video that celebrates the brand’s inaugural custom scarf bar, we’re taken to Scotland where we see how each of the delicate pieces is made. The scenic wilderness views just add to the romance of it all.

Inside Man of the World’s New Concept Space

We got the exclusive scoop on Gentry’s new Brooklyn space. We knew something big was up when the upstairs was cordoned off a few weeks ago. Luckily we were able to return recently for the unveiling of Man of the World’s new concept space. It’s eclectic, bright and colorful – take a look for yourself.

Iconic Supermodels Reunite for Peter Lindbergh

Sometimes it feels as if we’ve left the era of the supermodel, but every once in a while we get the supreme treat of having living legends like Cindy Crawford, Helena Christensen, Eva Herzigova and more come out of retirement. Of course, only a legendary photographer like Peter Lindbergh could make it happen. Nevertheless, it’s quite the reunion.
