Daniel Craig thinks James Bond is kind of a jerk, frankly
There’s no supervillain in the world with more license to kill James Bond than the actor who plays him.

Daniel Craig is in the middle of his compulsory press tour for the new Bond film Spectre— his fourth, and possibly last, outing as the iconic secret agent. But the British actor is hilariously checked out at this point: In every interview he gives, he essentially lays waste to his own character , killing hype for the movie in the process.

Spectre is still going to make lots of money—and most early reviews are positive —but Sony can’t be thrilled with how the actor has treated the studio’s crown jewel lately.

Craig might come off as cranky, but he’s actually making some salient points. In a great interview for Red Bulletin , Craig rightly calls 007 a misogynist, and questions his appeal: “A lot of women are drawn to him chiefly because he embodies a certain kind of danger and never sticks around for too long.”

He also takes issue with the interviewer implying that 51-year-old Monica Bellucci, the newest “Bond Girl,” is an “older woman” (a rare conquest for Bond, who usually seeks out women much younger than he).

“I think you mean the charms of a woman his own age ,” the 47-year-old Craig corrects the interviewer. “We’re talking about Monica Bellucci, for heaven’s sake. When someone like that wants to be a Bond girl, you just count yourself lucky!”

When Craig was asked what we could learn from Bond “that would help us in our day-to-day lives,” he said, after thinking for a while, “Nothing.”

Another interviewer wanted Craig to perform his signature pout. He wasn’t interested in playing along:

It’s strange to see an actor be so outwardly hostile toward his own character, even if many of the things Craig is saying about Bond ring true. Perhaps it’s coming from a place of frustration—he’s been portraying 007 for a decade now, and clearly would like to stop. (Craig is under contract for one more Bond film, but said he’d rather slash his wrists than go through with another movie.) Or perhaps Craig is just as tired of the franchise’s rampant racism and sexism as many others are.

So, who will take up the Bond mantle when Craig leaves? Maybe Idris Elba , maybe Tom Hardy, maybe Damian Lewis. When Time Out asked if Craig cares who plays Bond next, the actor responded : “I don’t give a fuck.”
