Anyone who watched the 1998 Japanese horror film The Ring will be familiar with its famous scare scene, where the ghost of ‘Sadako’ crawls out from the television screen.

While that might have been formerly limited to the movie display, people are now bringing the iconic scene to life thanks to augmented reality tools such as Apple’s ‘ ARKit ’.

Coder Abhishek Singh recently posted his AR recreation to Twitter, where it has garnered more than 12,000 ‘likes’ and 5,900 ‘reweets’ at time of writing.

In late 2017, YouTuber Mike Woods mischievously used ‘ARKit’ as well to reconstruct the scene—to impressive effect—especially for his children.

See both AR interpretations below, which do you prefer?

For those who are fans of horror films, would you love to see this become a staple for future movies in this genre? Or is this something that just reminds you of Black Mirror’s Playtest episode?
