As you might probably know by now, Stranger Things pays tribute to several pop culture favorites, most notably Stephen King’s work. In fact, King himself is a fan, and once described the series as “no bullshit” entertainment.
Having just begun production for season three, the official social media pages of the Netflix original recently updated their profile pictures to show one that’s oddly familiar.
The lettermark bears the initials ‘ST’, which evidently stands for ‘Stranger Things’, though some speculate it also means “Season Three.” Of course, the acronym also serves as an ideal, responsive canvas to pay homage to the logo from Stephen King’s book and television show versions of IT.
Stranger Things may or may not have referenced ‘Pennywise the Dancing Clown’ in season two. As ‘Bob’ recounted his childhood nightmares to ‘Will’, for instance, he spoke of a terrifying, bald clown who handed him a balloon.
Could the next season introduce more IT tie-ins? You’ll probably have to wait until next year to find out. In the meantime, enjoy the curiously similar logos below.
