It’s easy to forget that Steve Jobs, a technological pioneer of perfection and minimalism, started from humble beginnings too.

A job application from the late Apple CEO has been put up on auction by RR Auction , and its display of Jobs’ naivety during pre-Apple days is part of the reason it’s going at a starting bid of US$50,000.

According to the description, the form was filled out in 1973, three years before Jobs founded Apple with Steve Wozniak. It reveals a few spelling inconsistencies that contradict the perfection-focused design principles that he was known for.

Firstly, Jobs spelled his surname with a lowercase ‘j’. When asked to indicate his “access to transportation,” he wrote, “Possible but not probobale [sic].”

Under “special abilities,” he vaguely penned, “electronics tech or design engineer. digital.—from Bay near Hewitt-Packard [sic].”

When asked for his address, Jobs simply filled in, “reed college.” He also didn’t include a phone number when prompted to, making it especially difficult for potential employers to contact him.

In his defense, it was a good thing he didn’t go all out to sell his capabilities during his job hunts. How else would there be iPhones today?
