After Huawei cheekily handed out special chargers to Apple fans queuing for its new iPhones, long-term rival Samsung has taken a jab at Apple by handing out free smartphones to a very specific community in the Netherlands.

In this humorous marketing stunt, Samsung Nederland headed to the small community of Appel, which literally translates from Dutch to mean ‘Apple’, where it distributed its Galaxy S9 model to residents.

The unexpected gift-giving left many inhabitants extremely surprised, with more than one grinning from ear-to-ear at having received a brand new smartphone, completely free.

“What did I do to deserve this?” asked one man in earnestness. Another woman amusingly declared, “Long live Samsung!”
