IHOP Reveals Meaning Behind New Name ‘IHOb’ In Posters Before Official Unveil

Last week, IHOP announced that, on 11 June 2018, it will be rebranding to ‘IHOb’. It also flipped the ‘P’ in its logo to spell a lowercase ‘b,’ unwittingly spurring comparisons with a certain tampon brand.

What the “b” represents will be officially unveiled in the coming days, but some fans have come across signage prematurely installed in the pancake chain’s outlets that might reveal what it stands for.

Out of curiosity, Business Insider visited a branch in Daly City, CA to look for clues. A huge sign in the store proved that the mysterious letter doesn’t mean “bacon” or “breakfast,” but “burgers.”

Twitter user ‘somegarbageisok’ also snapped a photo of an poster displayed outside an outlet. Next to the IHOb logo sit the words, “Burgers Burgers Burgers.”

The print was advertising a new menu item called ‘Ultimate Steakburgers’, which the brand says are made with all-natural, USDA Black Angus beef. It looks like Wendy’s and McDonald’s have another rival joining their war.

Elsewhere, IHOP has already switched its social media handles to ‘IHOb’ to make way for the name change.

Whether or not the elaborate move is a marketing stunt remains unclear, but you can rest easy that the diner isn’t eliminating pancakes off the menu.

“Don’t worry, the bancakes aren’t going anywhere,” it ascertained a fan on Twitter—so there’s no need to find beef over the rebrand.
