You’ve seen several dedicated performance transformations for films this year. There was 1960s Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio for Quentin Tarantino’s upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tom Hardy as Al Capone, and Christian Bale as ex-Vice President Dick Cheney.

In this latest beyond-recognizable makeovers, 57-year-old actress Tilda Swinton has convincingly transformed herself into an 82-year-old man for upcoming horror film Suspiria.

Though there were initial suspicions with regards to Swinton portraying a man for the film, director Luca Guadagnino dismissed the speculations as “fake news” so as to maintain the guise.

In a recent interview with The New York Times, Swinton revealed that character ‘Dr Josef Klemperer’ was indeed played by herself, under the pseudo identity of 80-year-old non-existent actor ‘Lutz Ebersdorf’.

The impressive prosthetics and makeup convincingly turned Swinton into the character, shown inside the trailer and screenshots below. The veteran actress told The New York Times that she had decided to channel ‘Klemperer’ as ‘Lutz Ebersdorf’ for the “sheer sake of fun above all.”

Since Suspiria is about female identity, casting Swinton as the sole major male character would ensure that there would always be an element of femininity at its center, said Guadagnino. “Being a film about the fantastic, it was important that we did not play by the book.”

Suspiria arrives in NYC and LA theaters on 26 October, before hitting cinemas nationwide on 2 November. Swinton stars alongside cast members Dakota Johnson, Mia Goth, Lutz Ebersdorf and Chloe Grace Moretz.
